September's Project

Hello everyone, September's get together will be here before we know so I thought I'd give you a heads up on what we will be working on.  You can click on this link to see the Christmas Table Topper.  I've done one up and it's being quilted right now.  It was really easy and fast to put together.  Check your calendars and hopefully Tuesday, September 29th works out for everyone.  Let me know if you've got any questions.

ENVELOPE PILLOWS

LeAnna put together our project this month, envelope pillows.  She did her's for Fall.  I chose to do mine to match whatever or wherever year round, but it's funny how you always seem to want what you don't have.  When I saw LeAnna's and Lori's Fall pillows it made me want to do one of them too.  I've got more WANTS than I know what to do with!
Anyway, here's mine.  I wasn't able to finish it that night because I didn't bring any colored thread.  Instead I tried out my design on this little bib to make sure I'd like it.  I did!  I've kind of got the Bird Bug right now.
Okay, now EVERYONE get your ENVELOPE PILLOWS done and post the pictures on the blog. Remember, it's fun to share!

SHOW AND TELL

It's been so much fun getting together once a month to work on our quilting projects. One of the funnest aspects about it, is getting inspired by each other. This month Lori was voted the "MOST INSPIRATIONAL!" She brought three of her lastest projects to show us. I'm sad to say that for somehow I deleted the picture of one of her quilts off my camera. (Lori- you're going to have to take a picture of the turn-over quilt and post it.) It's worth seeing so we need to make sure it gets on the blog.

Lori's Bull's Eye quilt was done with three other friends.  They each did a certain number of blocks and them cut them in forths and traded with one another and put them all back together again.  It turned out awesome.
The other one is a seasonal sampler that she did with a class. It's so darn cute too! While the rest of you were buying cute designer fabric I was rumaging through my scraps and shopping for remnants for this. I call it, "I've Created a Monster". I don't know if it's the actual size or the busy-ness of it, but it seems HUGE and WILD.  Sometimes I look at it and hate it and then other times I look at it and kind of like it.  I can't wait to have it quilted to see if I end up liking it full time.  I think next time I'll stick to cute designer fabric!

Since I'm playing on the computer I thought I'd do a little remodeling to our blog. It's mainly a test to see if anyone notices or comments! So make sure if you've been here, you comment and let us know.
Our next get together is this Wednesday at 6:30. Hopefully all of you got your email and instructions for the pillow LeAnna is directing us on.
It will be fun to see everyone's works in progess, finished projects and see and hear ideas for new projects.

Baby Bedding

We got Kylee and Conner moved into their new house and Nixon's room all set up. It was fun to see the crib bedding all come together since it's been stuffed in a corner for the past couple of months.
I thought I'd post a couple of pictures to show you all how it turned out.

Nixon gave me a "thumbs up" so I think that means he liked his new bed! I made it so it could be reversible, but for now we went with the wild side.

For those of you who were not able to attend last months get together, you missed seeing some darn cute quilts done by Carli and Leslie. Carli took some pictures so hopefully she'll put them on the blog (hint, hint) for everyone to see.

It totally got me excited to get my whirlygig quilt done but I'm sad to report that not much has happened with it. Summer is just plain TOO BUSY. Oh well I guess it keeps us from spending too much on this fun hobby.

See you all soon..

Our Next Get-Together...

Hey girls!

Our next get-together will be on Tuesday, July 21 at 6:30 at the scrapbook store. Our project, if you want to participate, is going to be a pinwheel quilt.

For this quilt, you will need:

Pinwheels: 1 layer cake (or 4 charm packs)
Background: 3 1/2 yards (we both chose plain white)
Border: 1 1/8 yards
Binding: 2/3 yard
Back: 5 1/4 yards (FYI: Gracie Lou's gives 20% off the back if you buy everything at once)

Finished quilt will measure 72" x 87" and will consist of 80 - 7 1/2" pinwheel blocks...

Bring your fabric that night and we will show you how to cut it (we will type up the full pattern to give you there). We are both about halfway finished with our quilts, so we will bring what we have to show you! It is a very fun quilt! Also, remember to bring your block for the block-swap if you would like, and your 3 finished 12"x 12" wonky log cabin blocks for our charity quilt.

Hope you all can make it! :)

My First Quilt (Connie)

Camille from Simplify and Carrie from LaVieenrosie are hosting a Parade of Quilts. It's going to be so much fun to see everyone's past and present quilts.
My very first quilt was made for my daughter, Kaydee, twenty seven years ago. It was a panel that I started to hand quilt. My grandma took one look at it and told me that the poor baby was going to get her toenails stuck in the stitches! I put it in a drawer and never brought it back out.
Twenty five years later my next FIRST QUILT was a rag quilt. (You can see it there in the background, sorry I don't have a better picture). I made it for Kaydee also.
The thing I learned from making it, is that I didn't want to ever snip demin in a rag quilt again! Also it put the desire for quilting back in my life. Thank goodness for machine quilting so the people who are wrapped up in one of my quilts won't have to worry about having their toenails get stuck in the stitches!

My latest, completely finished, quilt is this one. I did it as a "thank-you" gift. It was so much fun to do because of all the bright colors and because of where it was going.

ATTENTION

Hey all of you "Sowing" chicks, I ran across a fun project for us all to do. Click on this link to see Camille's post about her Parade of Quilts. http://camilleroskelley.typepad.com/simplify/2009/07/parade-of-quilts.html#comment-6a00e55272ca4d8834011570f28216970c

Rest your head on a PILLOW

I haven't done much sewing lately. This is a hard time of year to find a few spare minutes to do it. So recently I've just done a couple of pillows since I haven't had time to do anything big like a quilt. I thought I'd share.

They are a bit on the bright side but I think they are fun. I just used scraps that I had hanging around.

A Fun Quilt

We recently took a trip to Seattle with Kylee and Conner. I wanted to make a quilt as a "thank-you" gift for Conner's parents because they provided us with great accomodations and entertainment too. I'm still not great at remembering to take pictures of my projects but since I did this time, I thought I'd share. It was a fun quilt to make. Although in the end I really should have made it a KING sized quilt because we owed them a KING sized THANK YOU.
